  Synthesis Architecture and Design  
  Ann E. Thompson — Senior Vice President, Architecture

Ms. Thompson has been responsible for developing Synthesis Architecture and Design, a division of Related Midwest, since joining the firm in 1995. Ms. Thompson handles the training and recruiting of a staff of more than 20 architects that provide architectural customization and design services. Ms. Thompson also manages the upgrade pricing processes for these same projects. Currently, the Synthesis staff is working with purchasers at the three buildings comprising The Residences on Lake Shore Park. Synthesis has provided architectural services to purchasers at The Mayfair and The Regent projects and more recently to over 70% of residents at Park Tower.

Before joining Related Midwest, Ms. Thompson worked at Burns & Beryl Architects, a leading Chicago residential design firm. She began her career at McBride and Kelley Architects where she gained experience in design and construction of commercial and institutional projects.

Ms. Thompson graduated with the highest honors from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Architecture and a Master of Architecture degree. While at school she was recognized for outstanding design achievement at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She was also the recipient of Jennie B. Long and Paul I. Cripe fellowships.

 

James W. Kaufman — Senior Design Architect

Mr. Kaufman joined Related Midwest as a Senior Design Architect in 2001. Currently, he is responsible for the finished unit design for all 42 units in The Belvedere at The Residences on Lake Shore Park. Prior to this, Mr. Kaufman was involved in the final construction administration and for coordination of the retail build-out of The Arcade in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Kaufman was also responsible for the design and construction administration for Vivo-Cleveland, an 8,100 square foot restaurant and bar at The Cleveland Arcade that has experienced great success since its opening in September of 2002.

Prior to joining Related Midwest, Mr. Kaufman spent three years in Cleveland working for Sandvick Architects as Project Architect for the $60 million Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade. Other professional experience includes VOA Associates Inc. and Rugo Raff Architects in Chicago and Professional Design Forum Architects and Frank Elmer Associates in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Kaufman received a B.S. in Architecture from Ohio State University and a Masters of Architecture degree from University of Illinois in Chicago. Mr. Kaufman is a member of the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

 

Stacy Wenger Lunardini — Senior Design Architect

Ms. Lunardini joined Related Midwest in 2000 as a Senior Designer for Synthesis. Presently, she is designing residences at The Residences on Lake Shore Park. Prior to this, she led the design process for Park Tower homes.

Prior to joining Related Midwest, Ms. Lunardini worked as a project architect for six years at Scott Himmel Architect and Rugo-Raff Architects in Chicago. Her primary experience is in high-end single-family residential design.

Ms. Lunardini received her B.A. in Art from Grinnell College and a Master of Architecture from Washington University.

 

Patrick McGuire — Senior Design Architect

Mr. McGuire joined Related Midwest in 1999. He leads a design team at the Synthesis Architecture and Design and participates in the leadership of the architectural office.

Prior to joining Related Midwest, Mr. McGuire was an Associate at Searl and Associates Architects, P.C., an architectural firm specializing in the design of high-end residential and historic restoration. Mr. McGuire also worked as a designer at Perkins & Will.

Mr. McGuire graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and a Master of Architecture degree. His thesis project for Chicago housing received awards and commendation from the University and the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

 

Timothy M. O'Neil — Vice President

Mr. O’Neil is a Senior Design Architect with Synthesis, leading a design team as well as participating in the leadership of Synthesis. Since joining Related Midwest in 1997, Mr. O’Neil has been responsible for the design and customization of over fifty units at The Mayfair, The Regent, The Town of Fort Sheridan, Park Tower, 840 North Lake Shore Drive, and Sixty West Erie.

Prior to joining Related Midwest, Mr. O’Neil worked for Ware Associates Architects in Chicago for three years on the design of worship facilities around the country and for Richard Rice Architects in New York City for two years, where he specialized in residential renovations of pre-war apartment buildings.

Mr. O’Neil graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture degree. Mr. O’Neil participated in the Study Abroad Program in Versailles, France, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.

 

Peter Eric Siegal, AIA, PE — Architect and Professional Engineer

Mr. Siegal joined Related Midwest in 1999 and works with both Synthesis and the Architecture and Planning Group. While lending architectural and technical expertise to the work of Synthesis for the Park Tower and The Residences on Lake Shore Park projects, Mr. Seigal also works with Architecture and Planning on affordable housing projects. Those have included Madison Park Place and Poplar Place in Springfield, RiverWest in Peoria, as well as the Humboldt Ridge Apartments and Highlands Tudor Manor senior housing in Chicago.

Prior to joining Related Midwest, Mr. Seigal was a principal with McBride & Kelley Architects where he was responsible for a diverse range of projects, including The Studios, a 180-room SRO in Chicago’s South Loop, and the 10-year rehabilitation of the landmark Wrigley Building.

Mr. Seigal graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in Architecture and from Columbia University with a Master of Arts in the History of Art and Architecture. Additionally, Mr. Seigal has served on the board of Uptown Habitat for Humanity and has been visiting faculty at Columbia University, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Seigal is a licensed architect in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Colorado and a licensed professional engineer in Illinois.
